I came across this quote by Sister Corita Kent and found it super inspiring in the wake of what’s going on right now.
I’m an artist, I’m not a “political” person in general- tho I guess art can be considered political- but right now how can we not be following what’s going and not paying attention to the US & their extreme leader who is destroying their country & in turn the world?
I feel helpless & in disbelief as I watch the latest fuckery- every day something else more terrible happens. I don’t know about you, but as a Canadian, all I can do is support my American friends who did not vote for this, & I can yell about what effect it’s having in my own country.
We need to defeat the conservatives & their idiot leader who has now been endorsed by the evil trifecta of Dump, Melon, & their puppet master Pee.You.tin. They think they “fooled” us yesterday (was it yesterday I can’t remember with all the shit flinging around out there) that Dump claimed he’d rather deal with a Liberal- nice try at reverse psychology there, we’re are smarter than that, you dipshit.
What as an artist can I do to help resist? This was a question I chatted about with my friend Dana.
I came up with a plan- wearable art.
I’m a sewist, always have been, even tho I don’t do a lot of that anymore, I’ve had a hankering to sew lately.
So I’m designing 4 projects & working with pattern designers- two Canadians & one American to add my art to their pieces- a tote bag, pouch, small drawstring backpack, & a jacket, plus a fabric scarf I will design, that we regular sewist artsy crafty quilty types can stitch up to wear & use & quietly go about our business while supporting in our country in a way that feels right for us.
I’m working on the art & figuring out fabrics this week/weekend & will share the first project as soon as I have it ready!
There will be info on how to find the patterns & the art will be available to make your own.
I’m already hoping Mark Carney visits the island so I can wear my art and go out & support him.
