Welcome Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks blog hoppers! My block is called Candy Colour Wheel, and you can find it on page 26 of the latest issue of the magazine, Winter 2015/Volume 12. I love scrappy quilts. I love the texture and movement, and all the colours and prints all mixed together, it just makes me happy to use up favorite bits and bobs, and is never boring to look at or work on!
I designed the block because of my love of a)Candy and b) Colour theory. The first influence behind the design was those yummy sour apple gummy candy rings, you know the ones that you can’t just eat one. Mmmm. Now I want some!
And of course being a designer, colour is my main influence behind everything I do. So of course had to use them all!
This block has loads of potential for playing with the design.
You could do a whole quilt of multicolour rings, and make it super scrappy by using assorted neutrals and low volume prints for the block background.
Or, make all the rings in shades of grey, with one in brilliant multi-colours.
Or even all of the rings in just shades of one colour would be cool and a great stash buster too.
You could also play with the placement of the rings on the block background squares, to give them lots of bouncy movement. If you want them overlap into a neighbouring block, sew some of the backgrounds together first, then applique the rings in place.
The sky is the limit and is open to play and experiment with!
And winner winner chicken dinner, bah bah da daaaah….
COMMENTS ARE NOW CLOSED, thank you to everyone who entered! I think the consensus of most popular colour in everyone’s stashes would be blue, seconded by green, then red. SEW much fun!
The lucky winner is Jennifer, who said, “I can’t believe how many yellows I have. WHICH would be fantastic backgrounds for your block! I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy.”
I’ve emailed you Jennifer, check your inbox!
For a giveaway, one lucky winner who comments on this blog post will win one copy of Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks Winter 2015 Volume 12. To enter, please leave a comment and tell us, what colour do you have most of in your stash?
We answered this Q at our last MQG meeting and my answer was “Vintage Sheet”, the funky, brilliantly coloured, retro style 60’s-70’s era bedsheets- I use them as quilt backs or cut them up into charms or scrappy pieces and work them into quilts or other sewing projects. I honestly have piles of them and much more of them than anything else in my stash by far!
So! Back to the draw, I’ll randomly draw one winner for one copy of the magazine on Friday November 20, 2015, by 5pm PST. The winner will receive the copy directly from the publisher. Please be sure to leave an active email address with your comment so I can get in touch with the winner!
Also, since I love colour, as I’m sure most quilty peeps do, instead of another draw, everyone can take part in this one. You can find a link below to a free colouring page that I illustrated. It’s in PDF format so you can download and print it out on regular 8.5”x11” paper and fill it with your favorite colours! (Personal use only please!)
And as always, feel free to find me on Instagram and tag me if you colour one of these up, I’d love to see!
You can find me here: @cynthiafrenette
Here is the colouring page file, in PDF format (2.9MB), click thru to download, print, and enjoy!:

I think I have most of brownish/golden tones in my stash.
I probably have the most of blue, but I’ve been working hard to collect neutrals and have built up a fairly good stash of those as well. Love your ideas on different ways to use your block!
The color I have the most of is teal. It’s the color of ovarian cancer. I’m a 22 year survivor and I make a lot of teal quilt to raise money for research. I think I’ll use your pattern to make a teal quilt. It should be fun to see how many different fabrics I can use.
a little color in the middle and it could change into one of those giant spiral lollipops.
I have more pinks and reds than any other color in my stash. Lots of baby quilts.
I seem to have an awfully lot of red in my stash. Mostly darks but there are some brights.
Oh love thes colorwheels. Just beautiful! And thanks for the fun coloring sheet!
Your block has so much possibilities
I use a lot of blues and grays
Love your block. Also thanks for the coloring sheet download. I have been into this lately and enjoy it.
I don’t know what I have the *most* of – but in the stash I inherited, I was able to pull together a sizeable set of greens!
I have a lot of blue and grays
I love your happy little block, Cynthia. Thanks for being with us on the blog tour. Have a great week!

I have mostly brights in my stash, and green is the predominant colour. I like green!
I have way too much blue in my stash.
Right now I have a lot of turquoise in my stash. It’s my current fave!
For some reason I have lots of greens and blues and I’m not sure why so much green as that isn’t really one of my favorite colors. Lovely block.
Thanks for the chance to win… Red is the color of my life!!!!!
I guess I mostly have blue in my stash. Trying to get more of a mixture, though. Thank you, peterstankovich@comcast.net
CONGRATULATIONS your block is so fun
I think I have more blues in my stash
I do a lot of hand applique, so I have a lot of green for stems and leaves. But if you count by yardage instead of piece, it would probably be blue.
Thanks for the coloring page! Your block is very fun–I’m not familiar with the sour apple rings, but I do have a bit of an addiction to the peach ones! As for my stash–I would say fifty percent is probably blue.
I have a lot of pink, aqua and black and I can see those colors in this design. Thanks for the chance.
I have mostly blues in my fabric stash…ps love your wheel……ty for sharing….happyness04431@yahoo.com
Dark Blues….It’s so easy to buy them. Last week at my LQS I was shopping the batiks and stopped in my tracks – “Hey this is a new one – how long has this been here?” About an hour I was told. COLOR RADAR works just fine.
I have lots of blue fabric.
I have mostly red, white and blues in my stash because I have made a number of quilts for returning, wounded soldiers, and of course, the requirement was to use patriotic colors.
Mostly blues right now. Thanks
I don’t know what color is predominate in my stash. Maybe greens? I try to get fabrics of all colors when I purchase (usually 50% off or more) and I try not to let my biases get in the way (e.g. not liking pink). So, it’s a wide range of colors and makes me happy to know that I can “shop” from them because I have even colors I am not a fan of. LOL. 🙂
Blue, blue and more blue! Oh and some gray too. I have that color in all the rooms in my house from dark to bright.

Wow – love the rings of color! I have a ton of red at the moment!!! So my stash is very Christmas-y at the moment!
When I started making colour wheel blacks for a sampler this summer, I quickly realized that I had an abundance of pink and red, but almost no aqua and purple. Hard to resist bright pink fabric!
blocks**
I have twice as much blue as any other color.
Thank you for the fun coloring page! And thank you for joining in on the designing and giveaway of Quiltmaker 100 Blocks. I love seeing all the new blocks from our favorite designers!
Blue is probably my most plentiful color…with brown coming in at a strong second 🙂
All shades and tints of blue dominate my stash. It’s my favorite color.
I probably have more purplein various shades than any other color. Love your fun block.
I always seem to be buying more reds!
Even though blue is my favorite color, for some reason black/gray/white seem to be dominant in my stash right now. Great block

I absolutely love your block. I sooo love the bright colors so I have many different fabric in my stash. If I had to pick one color that I have more of in my stash it would be greens. Thanks
I don’t really know what I have the most of; however, I know what I have the least of: oranges and yellows. Does this count? LOL!
I have more pink than anything. I need to use some of it up so I can buy more! Thanks for sharing with us!
I love your colour wheel block!
I have a lot of blue in my stash
I have more red than anything else.
Definitely blue.
I don’t think I have a lot of any one color, but I can say I lack solids, so does prints count as a color? 🙂
thanks for the coloring page, and love your quilt block! i actually have a lot of orange fabric in my stash. i love orange. 🙂
hi! Lovely color-candy rings!
I would say I have mostly red and blue, since I have three boys, one of which loves red, and a firefighter husband (fire-themed red quilts are frequent in my house). Other than that, my favorite designer is Kate Spain, so I have lots of her color palettes in the way of pre-cuts of multiple of her lines!

I can’t believe how many yellows I have. WHICH would be fantastic backgrounds for your block! I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy.
I think I have more blue than any other color. Partly because blue is one of my favorite colors and partly because of the vast number of blue fabrics available in so many different shades. Your answer to the question cracked me up. The “color” polka dot is another one I have a lot of.
I have a lot of blue in my stash!
Green, lots of green.
So beautiful and fun!!
Blues ,I try to have all color,
Great color wheel block. I have a lot of blues. When I first started quilting I thought I would make all blue quilts and wall hangings so created a big stash of blue. Then I tried other colors and still have a big stash of blue.
I have a lot of colors, mostly bright ones. Am working on building up neutrals as I don’t have very many in my stash. Thanks for the chance to win.
I have more blues and greens than any other color in my stash. Your block is unique and has many possibilities as far as layouts. Thanks for sharing and for the coloring page.
Love your bright Candy Colour Wheel! I have a lot of purples and greens in my stash.
I have lots and lots of green fabrics. Thanks.
Since purple is my fave color, that’s what I have the most of. With pinks and blues coming in close behind.
I probably have more blue than anything, but red comes in a close second.
I have well rounded stash but love my reds and neutrals
I have a lot of blue in my stash with green a close second. I need more brights.
I have more blue than anything else.
I really like your block design! Thanks for the giveaway opportunity.
I have 2 bins of red, so that’s my largest stash. Next would be blue. I’ve made 3 large quilts using only blue and still have a big bin left.
I lean towards blues and purples because they are my favorite colors. I have to make myself buy greens and oranges:).
GREEN!!! It’s my favorite color & is used in sew much of my applique. Your block is awesome and thanks for the coloring page…
Blues, greens and neutrals predominate in my stash.
What a great scrap busting block. Love it!
I probably have more blues than anything. If all of my fabric was nicely folded on the shelves, this would be easier to answer but a considerable amount of it is in plastic bins waiting to be nicely folded. I also love Christmas fabric and I know I have quite a bit of that!
Awesome block! I love scrappy, too, and I can see doing this in nothing but scraps with every color in the rainbow. Thanks for the giveaway. Since green is my favorite color, I have more of it.
green! any shade, tone, hue, love green!
Have lots of greens and reds.
Red in all shades!
I have mostly blues and reds with lots of black and white fabrics!
Blue. Thank you for the download coloring page.

I would have to say I have mostly blues, greens, and purples. Pretty much my color choice.
Pink had taken over my stash for the past two years so after five quilts and using it almost up, I have been buying more red, white and blue. I love all color.
Beautiful block! I have more blues than any other color. I love combining blues and greens.
Green…I have lots and lots of shades of green…thank you for the giveaway…marta
I do like your block and the thought behind it…candy!!!
Like most fabric lovers, I have a stash of rainbow colors. The one color I think I have the most of is greens. It’s not my favorite color, but there are so many shades of it that seem to coordinate with other colors. Thanks for the coloring page! duchick at mchsi dot com
Love your block! Anything in rainbow colors is an instant love! Gosh, I’m going to say either blues or pinks are the colors most in my stash.
Congratulations on being in Quiltmaker’s 100, Vol.12.
Awesome giveaway! Thank you for a fun page to color!
usairdoll(at)gmail(dot)com
More blues than anything else in my stash, although I was surprised to see that greens were a close second.
I have a lot of golds and blacks in my stash.
Somehow I always manage to have a ton of greens…every shade possible.
I think I have more pinks in my stash.
Screaming yellows permeates my stash, love the autumn colors I look best in.
Thanks
I have a large collection of reds!
Pink. From a wispy baby pink to screaming hot fuschia. Dainty prints, solids, comical prints, huge florals, cupcakes. Trouble is, my projects are mostly in other people’s colors, so I use up the blues and green and browns and oranges and golds and blacks and creams and put the pink box back on the shelf. Maybe its time to make something for me. In pink.
I have loads of neutrals (whites, creams, ivories, beiges). I have lots of blues and reds, too.
I have a lot of reds and blacks in my stash.
I think it would be fun to follow your suggestion and make many one-color blocks and put them together like a rainbow quilt!
I have mostly blues!
I love your block! Great way to use up my stash. I have a lot of earth tones in my stash; browns, tans, warm grays, and greens.
Blue!
I have more blue then anything in my stash. I love how it turned out.
Most blue batik. I love all the quilt maker 100 block books. Thanks for the giveaway!
I love the greens, especially the teals and limes. Must be my Army career sneaking in. kathleendotlutzatcomcastdotnet
My stash is heavy on bright and fresh tones of blues/greens.
love your “color wheel”. I think I have more green then any other color. thank you
I have more blues than anything else but, I am actively trying to collect low volume fabrics
thanks for the coloring page:)
I use mostly green in my quilts.
I am not sure what I have the most of at this time since my fabric is not all in one place (in the midst of moving). But, more recently, I have accumulated a lot of bright and cheery print fabric as well as novelty prints for quilts for my grandchildren.
I love the rainbow wheel. Thank you for the coloring page.
I have mostly blues, from the 80s and 90s in my stash. I’ve seriously been trying to buy new fabric to update this stash with modern prints of yellow and orange but seriously I have a lot of older country blues.
I mostly have blues in my fabric stash. Thank you for a chance to win. I really like your block.
My stash has the most blues. I love a scrappy quilt and right now my scraps are overflowing. I need a good scrap busting pattern like yours. Thanks also for the coloring sheet. I love to color!
Purple, or maybe black. Thanks. Diane O
I have lots of reds, my favorite color for quilts. Thanks for the coloring sheet. It will be fun to play with. I love your rainbow circles. What a great way to use up leftovers!
I probably have more blues in my stash than other colors.
Love your block! Back in the day, we used to call them chuckles and you get them at the movie theatre. Thanks for the doodle-do…. it will help up destress while waiting for the turkey to burn…. oh, I mean cook..yeah, cook!
